Why compute Hashes in the Browser?
Cryptographic hash functions like SHA-256 are one-way algorithms that transform an input string of any length into a fixed-size signature. Developers use this for verifying data integrity, storing passwords securely, and signing API requests.
Because you may need to hash an API Secret Key or a confidential database password, typing that string into a standard, backend-hosted web tool is extremely dangerous. This tool utilizes the browser-native window.crypto.subtle.digest() function. This guarantees that the string you type is never transmitted over the internet, providing absolute zero-knowledge security.
